Healthy Food for Life
Healthy Food for Life, our in-school, interactive nutrition program, is gearing up for
another exciting year of growth! In the 2012-2013 school year we will be presenting
HHFL at John Marshall Elementary School, Amagansett School, The Montauk School,
Springs School, Sag Harbor Schools and East Hampton Day Care Learning Center.
Our Happy Healthy Families, program returns by popular demand in the spring of 2013 to families of our HHFL students. This evening workshop series teaches families how to make healthy eating fun and budget friendly. This program is underwritten by a generous grant from the East Hampton Healthcare Foundation.
During National Nutrition Month in March, we will be offering special nutrition programming to over 1,000 children in our local schools. With the generous support of our community we are empowering a Generation of Change. You can support the Generation of Change by sponsoring a child and his/her family for the full six-week program with a $25 donation. Please click here to sponsor a child today. Your gift will empower a child to lead a happy and healthy life.
Healthy Food for Life
"Thanks to the Wellness Foundation, an entire generation of children in the Hampton
is learning that good health is dependent on the foods we eat. Healthy Food for Life is
a great model for the rest of the country; if every community developed a program like
this, healthcare costs would be sharply reduced, and our overall quality of life would be
significantly better."
— Pam Popper, PH.D., N.D.,
Executive Director of the Wellness Forum; author of "Solving America's Healthcare
Crisis"
"Wellness Foundation's Healthy Food For Life program is nothing short of revolutionary
at a time when the health of our children, our future, is at risk. They learned in a fun and
engaging way that healthy foods can be delicious. This is truly a movement and I feel
fortunate to have had the opportunity to sit in a classroom with these young people and
see the light bulb flash in their heads as they embraced and understood the concept that
their health is really paramount. I feel fortunate to live in a community that fosters this
kind of movement towards an ideal of health and wellness."
— Susan Nieland, parent
"Healthy Food For Life is an amazing program. I learned about the dangers of junk
food and that the body I am building is not temporary. I have to build a healthy body to
carry me through my whole life. It is my body and it is my job to keep it healthy. Just
making simple changes like whole wheat bread instead of white, adding kale and flax to a
smoothie are simple changes that can really make you healthier. I will be the Generation
of Change and not a statistic."
